Yet another airshow has fallen victim to the devastating flooding that has plagued the Midwest this year. The Salute to Veterans Airshow is held annually on Memorial Day weekend at the Columbia Regional Airport which is located near Columbia, Missouri. However; due to construction, this year the show organizers moved the event 20 minutes south to the Jefferson City Memorial Airport which sits right along the Missouri River.
In today’s press release, the airshow stated the Missouri River is expected to crest over two feet past flood stage on Wednesday, rendering the show impossible. The airport has already been evacuated. The event also includes a Memorial Day Parade which as of now is still scheduled to take place in Jefferson City, but all airshow events have been officially canceled.
