Rob Holland - Battle Creek Airshow 2014

Rob Holland needs your help to win gold for the USA in 2015!

When Rob won 1st place at the US National Championship this year, it secured his spot on the US Aerobatic Team that will compete at the World Aerobatic Championships in Chateauroux, France next August. The problem is, each pilot on the team is self-funded. This means all cost of shipping their aircraft and flying falls all on Rob. To offset this cost, Rob is asking for help from his fans to help him win Overall, Team, and Freestyle Gold in 2015!

There are several levels of donations and rewards available:
A $25 donation will get your name on Rob’s MSX-RH airplane
A $100 donation will get you a Rob Holland Ultimate Airshows hat
A $500 donation will get you a Rob Holland Ultimate Airshows Jacket
A $2,000 donation will get you an aerobatic ride with Rob
A $10,000 donation will get you a VIP Airshow Experience

All donors will also be entered to win a ride in Scott “Scooter” Yoak’s P-51D Mustang! A random name will be selected on July 31st, 2015.

You can donate to Rob’s quest to win gold by visiting his Fundrazr site.

Blue Angels Add Eau Claire, WI to 2015 Schedule

US Navy Blue Angels - NAS Oceana Airshow 2014

We now have one gap in the 2015 Blue Angels schedule filled after Blue Angels #7 and #8 stopped in Eau Claire, WI to perform a preseason coordination visit. They only perform such visits at locations they will be performing at the following season, so even though Eau Claire did not appear on the 2015 Blue Angel schedule released at ICAS in 2013, the show was expected to appear on the updated schedule to be released at this year’s ICAS convention. Sure enough, it was announced soon after the visit that the Blue Angels had committed to performing at the Chippewa Valley Airshow in Eau Claire the 4th and 5th of July of next year. This fills a hole in their schedule left open by the surprise cancellation of the St. Cloud, MN airshow, which was awarded a Blue Angel performance despite not intending to request one. The two locations are relatively close together, so it will not be much of a change for the team.

Captain Jeff Kuss, Blue Angel #7 and team narrator, stated, “We’re happy to announce that we are going to come here, we’re very excited about performing in this part of the country.” The show is scheduled for July 4th and 5th of 2015. This will be the first appearance of the Blue Angels to the show since 2010.

As always, there is a lot of pre-season planning that must be conducted before the show can commence. “In order for us to really start the ball rolling, we need to get eyes on the show area, the airfield area, the facility where we’ll be staying, where we’ll be working out, and most importantly, to be able to develop the relationship with the people we’ll be working with,” says Captain Corrie Mays, the events coordinator and Blue Angel #8. After the preseason flights and inspections, the team will not see the area until the week of the show, which is still seven and a half months away.

UPDATED: Plans For A 2015 Gary Airshow Are Official!

Art Nalls' Sea Harrier

Updated: It seems we have an answer. The day after our original post (below), Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson announced that the airshow will be returning to Marquette Park on the shores of Lake Michigan this July 10-11. The press conference this morning outlined numerous partnerships between local agencies and businesses that are working to support the show. Everything seems lined up for a normal event this summer – a sudden but pleasing turnaround from the news earlier this week.

Original Post: Will Gary have an airshow in 2015? The Chicago Tribune reports that plans for the South Shore Airshow to return in 2015 are currently headed nowhere, according to the CEO of the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority (SSCVA), Speros Batistatos. “This time last year we were securing acts,” said Batistatos, “We are not securing acts. I’ve not discussed this with the board, but we are still evaluating what, if any, future the air show will have.”

Hammond, Indiana Mayor Tom McDermott Jr. says that he would be very supportive of moving the show back to Gary, even if it would cost extra money, stating that hosting it at Fair Oaks Farms would pose the annual risk of being rained out. “I think it’s great for the region,” said McDermott Jr., “I think that’s the kind of thing the SSCVA should be doing.”

In 2014, the show was to be held in Fair Oaks Farms in Fair Oaks, Indiana after a controversial move from the usual lakefront venue in Gary, but organizers cancelled the event shortly before it was to start due to heavy rainfall in the area. This came two weeks after the sudden and unannounced cancellation of Art Nalls’ Sea Harrier from the event and months of debate over the wisdom of the move. Although it remains to be seen if, when, and where the next Gary Airshow will take place, we hope they can right the ship and make it happen!

Nalls Aviation Adds Two Seat Harrier To Jet Warbird Fleet

Last week, Art Nalls and Nalls Aviation made an extremely exciting announcement about their future plans. Art has managed to secure and purchase a two seat Harrier (from the UK) to join his already well known Sea Harrier and L-39 Albatros. The Nalls team does have plans for it to make airshow appearances in its stunning gloss black paint scheme, but it will also be used for training new civilian Harrier pilots. Only two pilots fly the current Sea Harrier; Art himself and retired Marine Corps General Joe Anderson. Both are rated as flight instructors for powered lift aircraft and will be able to pass on their knowledge using the two seater.

The aircraft will be disassembled and shipped to the US, where it will need to be reassembled and modified for FAA approval. It is expected to be flying in 2015. The question on our minds is, will we see a two ship Harrier demo routine, or will the aircraft simply appear at separate shows as single ships?

Until we get that question answered, allow us to offer you a ride on the tail of the Nalls Sea Harrier at the Cleveland National Airshow this past September:

Wings Over Wayne Returns in 2015

posted in: Airshows | 1

ToM2014WM_1Small-SAfter sequestration forced the cancellation of the 2013 edition of the Wings Over Wayne airshow, Seymour Johnson AFB has announced they will once again hold a show in 2015!

The show hopes to attract the USAF Thunderbirds. Seymour Johnson is also home to the 4th Fighter Wing, flying F-15E Strike Eagles, and the 916th Air Refueling Wing, flying the KC-135R Stratotanker; perhaps we’ll see those aircraft in the skies as well!

The airshow has historically been held in the spring months. The USAF Thunderbirds will announce their schedule December 10th at the ICAS convention in Las Vegas, NV.

Hopefully this is the first of many military bases announcing shows in 2015!
