Prepare For EAA AirVenture 2018 With 10+ Hours Of 2017 Oshkosh Footage

EAA AirVenture Oshkosh

We’re about one week out from the start of EAA AirVenture 2018 in Oshkosh, and we are excited! Oshkosh is not only an amazing airshow, it’s a chance to spend time with aviation friends from all over. EAA recently revealed most of the details of the airshow portion of the event, including some exciting items like a B-52 flyover with pyro! You can read more of the specifics on our forums.

AirVenture is also the largest event of the year for us here at AirshowStuff, and we work very hard even before and after the official event to capture the very best videos and photos that we can. It takes months for us to edit and post all of the content we capture, and Oshkosh always proves to be among the most popular of the things we share.

This is the first year that all four of the main team members (Ryan, Dave, Anthony, and Ricky) will be together at the event. We expect to have three different video cameras plus our SLRs, onboard cameras, scanners, and other equipment. It’s safe to say we don’t travel light!

EAA AirVenture Oshkosh

For those who won’t be attending the show with us, we want to help you join in the fun. Here are some ways you can connect with us and others during the week:

  • Follow our Facebook and Instagram pages for live streams and other posts during the event.
  • Subscribe to our Youtube channel, where we will upload highlights during and after the event.
  • Keep an eye on our forums and help us out by sharing your own photos/videos from the show, as well as any info you come across.
  • Listen along to EAA Radio and LiveATC.

We also invite you to step back to AirVenture 2017 with these two often-requested videos; our Oshkosh mega-compilations! Since we started these several years ago, they have grown considerably each year and we finally had to split the footage into separate compilations for the airshow performances and the arrivals/departures. Enjoy over 10 hours of continuous Oshkosh footage, and check back soon for even more!

Daily Airshow Schedule For EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018

USAF F-16 Fighting Falcon - EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2016

The Experimental Aircraft Association has released the daily airshow schedule for EAA AirVenture 2018! Take a look below and see some of the awesome aircraft and performances that will be taking place.

Noteworthy inclusions on the schedule:

  • Monday will feature “FLS Microjet and Cri Cri with Ford vehicle drifting”, an unusual combination that will surely be something not seen before.
  • Tuesday is the premiere of the SureFly octocopter and the Yak-110, a custom-built jet- and prop-powered aircraft made from two Yak-55s.
  • The Wednesday twilight show will feature the B-1B Lancer, which stole the 2017 airshow with its vapor-filled flybys!
  • Thursday is dedicated to “Early Jets”, so it’s safe to assume the warbirds segment will include the Gloster Meteor as well as the Vampire, Venom, and other jet warbirds.
  • Friday will include an Air National Guard flyover by a KC-135 and F-16s, undoubtedly from local Wisconsin units.
  • The Saturday twilight show marks the appearance of the E-4B Nightwatch, a modified 747 that serves as an airborne command post and is very rarely seen at airshows.
  • Sunday will also feature the E-4B, as well as the usual aerobatic performers and demonstrations by both the C-17 Globemaster III and F-16 Fighting Falcon.

Other highlights aren’t specifically called out on the schedule; two Grumman F7F Tiger Cats will be at the show along with an ultra-rare XP-82 Twin Mustang and a newly restored P-51C “Lope’s Hope”. Oshkosh is also expected to be the first appearance of the P-51 Mustang “Moonbeam McSwine” after it was brought back to the US as a tribute to Vlado Lenoch. These will hopefully fly during the various warbird segments.

Keep an eye to our forums for more information as other announcements are made, and join the conversation there to let us know what you’re most looking forward to seeing! Also, make sure to check out our mega-compilation video from AirVenture 2017 at the bottom of this post. It’s four and a half hours of airshow action!

Countdown To AirVenture: Best Of Oshkosh 2014

USAF Thunderbirds Take Off at Oshkosh

Oshkosh will be here before we know it! Soon, the skies of Wisconsin will be filled with planes and the grounds will be filled with, well, more planes! People too! A lots of them! Check out some of the expected items at this year’s show.

The 2014 airshow marked the first time a US military jet demonstration team performed at Oshkosh. Performing Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the USAF Thunderbirds soared through the skies of Oshkosh in their famous red, white and blue F-16 Fighting Falcons. While this was a popular performance, it also forced the normal Oshkosh crowd line back a bit.

Matt Younkin was kind enough to take our cameras for a ride during his daytime Twin Beech Aerobatic demonstration at the 2014 show. We have two videos from that flight- one in the cockpit and one looking out over the wing. Check out both views below!

AirshowStuff also obtained a unique view of Kyle Franklin’s “Dracula” performance when we put a camera in the cockpit of Kyle’s plane.

One of the best things about Oshkosh is the variety of warbirds that perform each and every afternoon in the airshow. The 2014 show featured jets, radials, and much more!

The weather of Oshkosh can also provide a bit of a tricky landing situation for pilots. Check out several of our “Gusty Crosswind Landings” videos by watching the playlist below.

If you want even more Oshkosh, you can settle in for an hour and a half of action with our mega-compilation!

Here’s a few more of our photos from the 2014 show. You can find many more photos in our gallery!

EAA AirVenture 2017 To Feature The Only Two B-29s Still Flying – “Doc” and “FIFI” Confirmed For Oshkosh!

Boeing B-29 Superfortress "FIFI" and Fireworks - EAA AirVenture Oshkosh

This year’s EAA AirVenture is set to feature not one but TWO flying B-29 Superfortresses. That’s right, both “FIFI” and “Doc”, the only flying B-29s in the world, are planning to attend!

Earlier today, Doc’s Friends, the group behind the aircraft, announced four stops on the first half of Doc’s planned 2017 tour. Doc recently completed ‘phase one’ of the initial flight testing program following a lengthy restoration in Kansas, which allows it to be flown to airshows. These events will be important fundraising opportunities for the group, and an exciting opportunity for fans to see a ‘new’ and extremely rare aircraft. Be sure to check our forums for the other dates and updates at the rest of the schedule is announced!

The Commemorative Air Force had previously released a partial schedule for their B-29, FIFI. FIFI is authorized to give rides, and tours the country each year to raise money for the organization.

The two aircraft will cross paths in Oshkosh, WI this July 24-30, during the massive EAA AirVenture airshow. We look forward to bringing you the sights and sounds of this amazing meetup between the only airworthy B-29s!

Update: Eagle-eyed fans have pointed out that these aircraft will actually cross paths earlier in the year, as both are scheduled to attend the airshow at Barksdale AFB in Louisiana in May! This summer will be very exciting for B-29 fans!

WATCH: Thunder And Smoke From TWO F-4 Phantoms Flying Together At AirVenture 2016

Feel The Thunder!

The F-4 Phantom is now gone from the active United States Air Force inventory, but you can still see the Phabulous Phantom in this great video from the AirshowStuff.com team. Retired in December of 2016, the F-4 Phantom made its final rounds of the airshow circuit that year as a Pharewell to a much-beloved aircraft. Watch as Lt. Col. Ron “Elvis” King and Lt. Col (Ret.) Jim “WAM” Harkins show the crowd at AirVenture 2016 that the Phantom still has the moves.

You can almost feel the thunder in your chest from the J-79 jet engines as the two pilots roar past on takeoff. See the characteristic smoke trails that gave the Phantom one of it’s many nicknames of “Old Smokey”. You’ll see smoke, the flames from the afterburners, and hear that incredible roar as these legends of airpower fly overhead. This video will thrill any Phantom Phanatic and remind you of how Phantastic the F-4 Phantom truly was.

Built by McDonnell Douglas, the Phantoms served the US Air Force, US Navy, and US Marines from the 1950’s all the way into the 2000’s with many different variants. The F-4 Phantom was a formidable fighter/bomber and even a very capable reconnaissance platform that served from land-based airfields as well as aircraft carriers, and served in nearly every conflict from Vietnam to Desert Storm. Select full screen and turn up the volume to experience this awesome piece of history in full HD!

US Navy Blue Angels To Headline EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2017 With Full Aerobatic Performances

posted in: Airshows, Jet Teams | 0

US Navy Blue Angels

The famous US Navy Blue Angels flight demonstration team will headline EAA AirVenture for the first time this July. Although the show was previously listed on the preliminary 2017 schedule released last year, it was confirmed earlier this week when the updated 2017 Blue Angel schedule was announced.

The team has sent jets to AirVenture in the past, but it has never performed a full demonstration due to airspace limitations. In 2014, the show made special arrangements for a full-sized aerobatic box and hosted the US Air Force Thunderbirds. The Canadian Forces Snowbirds performed their full routine in 2016.

In order to establish the sterile aerobatic box, the crowd line is temporarily relocated further from the runway. Unfortunately this leaves numerous aircraft and structures in front of the crowd to block the view, and can create a dangerous stampede when the crowd is released to rush forward.

The event runs from Monday, July 24th through Sunday, July 30th at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, WI. The team is only scheduled to perform on the final Saturday and Sunday, but typically runs through a full routine as practice on the Thursday and Friday before a show. Any aerobatic practice would require the modified crowd line.

Mighty F-4 Phantoms To Roar Into EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2016

USAF F-4 Phantom II - EAA AirVenture Oshkosh

Prepare to feel the roar of the Phantom at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2016!

AirshowStuff has learned that plans have been finalized for not one but two mighty F-4 Phantoms to appear at the 2016 EAA AirVenture airshow in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The plan is for both aircraft to fly in from Holloman AFB in New Mexico as a two ship formation. They will arrive Monday and depart on Thursday, with hopefully some flybys each time. Of course plans can always change, so stay tuned to AirshowStuff for any further updates we get.

As we reported in May, this is likely the final year for the F-4 in USAF service. At that time 21 of the QF-4 drone aircraft remained but some have certainly been shot down since. The program will likely come to an end before the calendar hits 2017.

Luckily, there are still a few airshows left where you will hopefully be able to see one of this legendary jets for yourself. Watch our interview with the QF-4 detachment commander and likely final USAF F-4 pilot, “Elvis” King, below to hear more.
