Mike Wiskus Retiring(?) After 2021 Season

Post by awal2049 » Tue Dec 15, 2020 11:09 pm

Mike Wiskus, pilot of the Lucas Oil Pitts Special, has seemingly dropped a bombshell announcement in a Facebook post today. 2021 will be his final air show season! If this is really what the post means, it has been a thrill seeing him at least once a year in recent memory. Original post below:
This year has been especially difficult for all and I am fortunate to have participated in these virtual and in-person shows. Looking forward to my final season in 2021! #LucasOil #LucasOilAirshows GEICO Skytypers Air Show Team Fort Lauderdale Air Show Space & Air Show Wings Over North Georgia Airshow

Very fortunate I got to see him perform in 2019. Hope I get another opportunity to see him fly in 2021 before he retires. Here's a video I took of his performance at the 2019 New York International Air Show in Newburgh, New York.

To be frank, I've never really experinced Mike Wiskus in his "lucas Oil" pitts bi-plane perform at any of the shows I have attended in the past decade or so if you will, but a possibility I might be fortunate enough to see one of his performances at Huntington Beach this fall, however, I have heard of him various times from different photographers I've talked to in the past year, they assert that he's, in general, a good pilot and so forth, so I'll just look into him.

I can confirm that it’s true. He flew his last show yesterday at WONG where he got a water cannon salute.
