Post by n33d4sp33d_85 » Sun Jul 25, 2021 3:41 pm

I just found out that Dale "Snort" Snodgrass, former F-14 Tomcat pilot as well as talented airshow pilot passed away yesterday. :(
It is with a very heavy heart and with great regret that I pass on the tragic news of the demise of legendary Dale “Snort” Snodgrass who perished on Saturday doing what he loved.

Very sorry to hear this. The Tomcat Demo and Cat Flight at the Air Zoo were two of the formative airshow experiences for me when I was a kid. I loved watching Dale fly the Air Zoo Corsair.

My Dad and I spent a couple hours watching an airshow with him, Jim Read and Cathy Harrell one year in Muskegon. Dale was flying the P-51 "Excalibur" that day. Towards the end of the show, he had to suit up to race "Excalibur" against the jet truck (probably Shockwave). I remember him saying "they want me to lose" and rolling his eyes as he headed towards the Mustang to fly.

He was a real nice guy in the few interaction I had with him. My condolences to his friends, family and those who knew him best.

I got to see Snort fly many times throughout the 2000s when he was flying the F-86 Sabre as well as the P-51 Mustang. I still remember the time in 2005 when he and Ed Shipley did a 2-ship performance in the F-86 Sabres. In 2010 he joined up with Jerry Kerby when they flew a 2-ship performance involving the MS760. To my memory the last time I saw him perform at an airshow was in 2012 when he was part of the Black Diamond Jet Team which performed at NAS Oceana. Snort was one of those amazing pilots to enjoy watching at airshows and will sadly be missed. Here are some videos I took from 2004 to 2012.
