1982 USAF Thunderbirds Diamond Crash

Post by n33d4sp33d_85 » Tue Jan 18, 2022 9:57 pm

It was on this day in 1982 (40 years ago) that the USAF Thunderbirds suffered its worst accident in team history.
Here’s a toast…
Today marks 40 years since the infamous Diamond Crash.
On this day in 1982, the four T-38 Talons that made up the Diamond Formation crashed during a practice over Indian Springs Air Force Auxiliary Field (now Creech Air Force Base) when the lead aircraft suffered a mechanical failure, claiming the lives of their pilots.
We continue to remember and honor the lives and legacies of Maj. Norm Lowery III, Capt. Willie Mays, Capt. Joseph Peterson, and Capt. Mark Melancon.
