Overview Of Future Plans By The Oregon International Air Show

Post by n33d4sp33d_85 » Wed Jun 01, 2022 2:49 am

With our recent triumphant return of air shows to Hillsboro and our upcoming show scheduled for August 19-21 in McMinnville, we wanted to take this moment to provide an overview of the Oregon International Air Show's plans for hosting shows at multiple locations. We've had some questions about this and want to provide you with the facts.
Judging by last week's historic air show and turnout, Hillsboro Airport continues to attract crowds to enjoy our world-class events. Hillsboro Airport will continue to host air shows and be an important part of the Oregon International Air Show’s mission to promote aviation and support non-profit organizations, charities and students throughout SW Washington and Oregon.
That being said, for the foreseeable future the Hillsboro location is not able to host the U.S. military formation jet teams, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, due to the increased development surrounding the airport. Simply, the aerobatic box, the air space needed to perform, doesn't currently exist at Hillsboro.
Even still, we will continue to hold world-class air shows at Hillsboro featuring U.S. military single ship jet demo teams, non-U.S. military formation jet teams, civilian teams, vintage military aircraft and the best civilian performers in the world. We are also developing our Hillsboro events to better engage our community with STEAM education, Work Force Development opportunities, and other educational and trade roles.
Because we want to continue to host the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds for our great Oregon International Air Show fans, we developed the second show site at McMinnville that allows for a suitable aerobatic box for them to perform. Our intention is to keep both of these shows as world-class entertainment venues as we continue to develop each location. Having two shows will also allow us to offer uniquely different air shows while we continue to support Oregon charities and to grow our support of STEAM-based education.
Some years we may host shows at both locations. Some years we may host shows at one location. We may even host shows at additional locations in the future! Those decisions will be determined based on the performers we are able to secure, their requirements of the airfields, and other operational considerations.
Since 1988, the Oregon International Air Show has donated more than $3.38M million back to the community and over five hundred different projects have been supported. We intend to continue to provide the very best air show entertainment and guest experience for our Oregon International Air Show fans all the while continuing to provide financial support to area community and non-profit organizations.
