Commemorative Air Force B-29/B-24 2020 Tour Plans Cancelled

Post by RyanS » Thu Jun 04, 2020 3:42 pm

The Commemorative Air Force is cancelling their 2020 tour plans for the B-29 Superfortress "Fifi" and B-24 Liberator "Diamond Lil". They don't feel they can support the travel and expense given the current situation. This will mean a significant financial hit for them as the rides they sell are a major fundraiser.

Full post:
Sad But True...

Greetings to all of our friends of FIFI and DIAMOND LIL. The B-29/B-24 Squadron officers have made the final decision regarding the 2020 tour. We feel we have no other option but to cancel the entire scheduled 2020 tour season.

As we look at all the conditions surrounding our ability to travel across the country and conduct our AirPower History Tour events, we just cannot move forward with a tour this year. We are all disappointed, but see no other option.

This decision comes with many significant negative impacts. One very significant negative impact is to the squadron financially. Even after making significant reductions in a number of areas, our fixed costs remain high given the size of our airplanes and the scope of how our squadron operates.

We are planning on launching a fundraising campaign, and the funds raised will directly support the squadron's operating expenses until we are back in a position to generate revenue from our tour operations. An announcement of the campaign will come soon. Now, more than ever, you can play an important role in helping us raise these funds by spreading the word through every social media platform you use and, of course, through your generous donations. A sincere and heartfelt thank you to all those who have already contributed to the cause.

Jonathan Oliver
B-29/B-24 Squadron Leader
