I'll have some video of their practice soon. Hopefully they get way better at formation in Oshkosh!

Sounds like the Erickson P-40 and SBD are no longer possibilities. They have been removed from the Air Expo lineup the weekend before which likely means that they are not coming east at all.

This will be my first AirVenture so I am just curious what to expect. I was also wondering if anyone had some insight to the A-10 CAS demo and possibly statics and if, since the theme is WWII+1, they would bring the 3 retro A-10s from the ANG. Saw the pictures of the Fort Wayne Heritage bird and have seen pictures of the Boise one, Maryland has one now too but I haven’t seen too many pictures of theirs. Mainly this was speculation on my end, most important is what to expect, any help would be appreciated.

Ryan hit pretty much all of the advice I would give. The most important thing to understand, and it cannot be emphasized enough, is just how large the show grounds are. There are quite literally miles of aircraft on display. If you want to see everything, I would try to break down your week and try to focus on a particular area of interest each day, or put some thought into prioritizing what you'd like to see. The Vintage and Warbird areas are fullest Tuesday-Thursday, for example. The size of the grounds means that you're almost guaranteed to miss something cool because it simply isn't possible to see everything that happens in a given day.

A good part of the fun at Oshkosh is the aircraft operations that take place throughout the day. As Ryan mentioned, you may have a string of GA arrivals and then all of a sudden there will be a flight of P-51s in the pattern, a military aircraft arrival, or something else going up for a photo flight, etc. It would be very easy to just park a chair along the main runway and do nothing but watch aircraft ops all week if that's what you like to do. Runway 9-27 is also worth checking out if you're over in the warbird area too. While you cannot be there during the airshow, you can still see some interesting things there in the morning or evening - and the runway is close!

Depending on how ambitious you are or how tired you are, you can also wander the grounds as late as 8 p.m. I personally like to spend at least one evening walking through the warbird area. There's just something about seeing those aircraft in the evening light with virtually nobody around that always feels special. It's also worth staying in your chair and watching aircraft ops into the evening. You never know what you might see arrive or just go out and fly around! One thing to keep in mind is that if you decide to leave your chairs while you walk around in the evening, they may get picked up and taken to lost and found by event staff after about 7:30 p.m. You're generally fine to claim a spot and leave them in a bag all day, but they do occasionally get moved for aircraft ops.

I've never had what I would consider a bad experience with food, parking, traffic, or any of the other issues other airshows tend to mess up. It does take some time to get in the grounds in the morning but I have never had to wait more than a half hour to park. All of that could change with the new parking/shuttle system for people not staying on the grounds.

It's pretty much impossible to have a bad day at Oshkosh. There's always something to see and the event is superbly run. Hope you have fun!

Just to tack on to this - the warbirds area generally stays open until sunset and then they start to secure it to protect the expensive planes. In our first few years of going we would frequently go down to the P-51 parking area and shoot the sunset off of the bare metal.

The rest of the grounds are pretty much open all night as far as I know. Much of the area is a campground so they can't exactly block it off. I know people have done late night shoots in the main plaza and in the vintage area. Of course, the next morning comes early :)

Yea they wanted to come to TOM, but too much $$ to not fit the theme. Not sure who decided the P-40/SBD combo. Hard to sell that to a show.

Makes sense. I thought they'd escort the B-25 to TOM and they'd find a way to fit the P-40/SBD in somehow, but I guess that's off the table. Too bad. The P-40 and SBD would have been perfect fits for Oshkosh this year.

Curious about a few things. Is the F16 flying everyday during the daily airshow? Is the Legacy Flight with the EA18 every flight and are they flying in the daily airshows? You posted Saturday Night F18 and EA18, are they both flying Demos or are they flying in a Legacy Flight together? Is the West Coast Rhino Team appearing at Airventure?? Anything about surprises they’re not telling? Was curious if the Blues or Thunderbirds will make an appearance for a flyover. Excited about this year after not having last year!
