The F-15Cs were on static earlier in the week. They arrived Sunday morning.

EAA does not seek a jet team each year as that really isn't the style of the event. They have to do some unusual - and extremely annoying - things to get an aerobatic box big enough for a jet team and the practice time constraints of the team screw up a lot of other flying during the week. I am glad to not have jet teams there!

I'm not too privvy on the aerobatic box thing. Why such a laborious endeavor? I noticed a lot of low-level high speed passes with the Viper and Rhino demo teams this and previous years. Although not complaining, it'd be nice to see some more verticals, Cuban-8s, Immelmans, Barrel rolls, etc.

I believe they have a cat 2 box. CAT 1 is needed for the full demo profile. I believe a cat 1 is 7500 ft by 3000 ft

Any of the fast jets require a box dimensioned 12000 feet x 3000 feet to be completely sterilized of people in order to perform aerobatic maneuvers. This is the same for the single-ship demos, Blue Angels/Thunderbirds/Snowbirds, and even vintage jets like Randy Ball in the MiG-17.

In order to accommodate this in Oshkosh, special arrangements have to be made with the homes and businesses on the far side of the field to ensure they are shut down and empty during show hours. The crowd also needs to be pushed back a bit so during 'jet box' days, people are not allowed to sit anywhere in front of the speaker poles. This makes for a pretty stupid day because the parked aircraft are in front of you blocking any view of the runway and possibly more. Once the show is over, everyone has to pack up and make a FRANTIC dash to the regular burn line to get a new spot for the night show. It is NOT a fun experience.

Without the full aerobatic box (most years) the single-ship demos that do come are limited to performing non-aerobatic passes - high speeds, min turns, etc. That's why the F-16 routine was so limited this year.

Wow! I didn't realize the work it takes to secure a full aerobatic box (and the inconvenience of it all). Looks as though this box has not been "set up" much in past airshows. At least a 360 min radius turn was thrown in there by the Viper this year. The Rhino pretty much flat passes. Thanks, RyanS.

After weeks of lurking, I thought I would join in and give my impression of Oshkosh. I was only able to be there Saturday and part of Sunday. My brother on the other hand was there all week. I think it was a good show, although the Warbirds show on Saturday was kinda lack luster, probably due to the weather and smoke. I was really hoping to see the P-38 and F6F fly. I don't care much for the military demos, once you've seen one, you've seen them all. That being said the burner passes for the night show by the Rhino were awesome. The AFSOC demo was neat but dragged, as did the "AC" Heritage flight. As always the fireworks/pyro were the highlight. I was sad I didn't get to see the Good Year Blimp fly. My brother said Friday was probably the best day for the shows. I really think the severe weather earlier in the week caused a lot of aircraft to leave early. There was a lot of "holes" at the warbirds area by Saturday. I agree with early folks about no jet teams, they perform many other places. To me Oshkosh is more about Warbirds, Antiques/Classics and unusual aircraft, I don't mind the current military aircraft but they can be "boring". Maybe because I work on a Navy base and see them all day long :) The Airbus A-400 was neat to see and watch depart for example.

Can't wait for next year already :D

There are a lot of ropes to go through. Lol. The same goes for shows over water. When we were working to get one in Racine, we needed boats to patrol the box, but only one person could be on the boat, the box for demo teams were so big, it closed off the marina--- which had to have special permissions and boats removed for the length of the demo, then returing to a smaller box (in 1989, the boaters refused to move, and luckily the Blues agreed to a last minute air show box that was changed), and finally the box needs to have dive team members and police, fire, and rescue. Here in Racine, divers are controlled by the sheriff, while police, fire, and rescue are controlledby the city. That becomes an issue because there sheriff and the city police chief rarely talk because both of them are from different political parties. LOL. A lot of red tape. I must admit, I'm surprised that Osh Kosh can't fit a bigger box--- the world's largest show, and they can't do a level 1 box. Perhaps in the future, they'll buy the surrounding land...

My first time using a camera like this. Here’s a few of the photos I ran off so far. Let me know how you all think I did for a rookie.

Altho I thought it was cool to see the BA at OSH back in '17, I think you're right that not having a jet team sets it apart for its overall flavor of the uniqueness of planes. I do like the modern military muscle that flexes at the show. Good review.
