Red Arrows will be back
Surely a crowd-pleaser and fan favourite, the Red Arrows are back to grace Maltese skies and entertain spectators! With Avalon, Australia, having to cancel their airshow, a golden opportunity was presented and both Malta and the Red Arrows worked in tandem to have the Royal Air Force aerobatic team in Malta one more time.

Based at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire, the Red Arrows had flown almost 5,000 displays in 57 countries, by the beginning of 2021 — the team's 57th season. This will be the Reds’ 9th visit to our island, having last performed back in 2014. It is always an honour to host the Red Arrows at our show!

The RAF Aerobatic Team is one of the world's premier aerobatic display teams. Representing the speed, agility and precision of the Royal Air Force, the team is the public face of the service.

Flying distinctive Hawk fast-jets, the team is made up of pilots, engineers and essential support staff with frontline, operational experience. Together, they demonstrate the excellence and capabilities of the Royal Air Force and the Service's skilled, talented people.

The Airshow Team is happy to announce the participation of the Italian Navy who last participated at the Malta Int'l Airshow in 2005. The Marina Militare will take part with an SH-90 of the 4° Gruppo Elicotteri based at Grottaglie.

The Italian Navy ordered 46 NFH known as SH-90A plus 10 TTH known as MH-90A in MITT (Maritime Italian navy Tactical Transport) transport configuration for amphibious / special forces support but retaining some of the NFH features such as Automatic Folding Blades, etc for shipborne operations.

The primary role of the SH-90 NFH version is autonomous anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and anti-surface unit warfare (ASuW), mainly from naval ships. These aircraft are equipped for day and night, adverse weather and severe ship motion operations. Additional roles include anti-air warfare support, vertical replenishment (VERTREP), search and rescue (SAR) and troop transport.

More extraordinary support for Malta from Italy! :o
Strong Leonardo presence at MIA2021! We have received confirmation that the Italian Vigili del Fuoco (Italian National Fire Corps) will participate at this year’s edition for the very first time with an AW139 in the static line up.

The Italian National Fire Corps intends to progressively replace the decades-old AB412s helicopters and to guarantee optimal coverage and increased responsiveness across the country. Indeed, the introduction of the AW139 marks a major enhancement of airborne multirole capabilities with the world’s most modern helicopter for maritime and mountain Search and Rescue (SAR), medical rescue, firefighting and disaster relief duties. The fleet modernization programme includes an option for seven additional helicopters which could be added to the eight already ordered.

The Malta International Airshow made a very welcome return to the European Airshow Calendar in 2021 after a three-year absence. This time the flying displays had a new location on the edge of St. Paul’s Bay towards the north of the island but there was still the traditional static display at Malta International Airport. The show attracted several very rare participants one of which was making its final public appearance before imminent retirement. A full image gallery and review can be found HERE.
