If there's been a silver lining to the chaos of the last two airshow seasons, it's that it's encouraged me to visit several smaller venues I had never really thought about before. Last weekend was delightful, with a nice mix of performers, including a few I hadn't seen before.

The highlight - of course - was the RAF Typhoon, the first serving military jet to display at Old Buck. Blackjack managed a full display both days, and there were a couple of occasions where it seemed particularly intimate, especially on Saturday. At the other end of the scale, my other highlight was the Storch/Cub pairing, re-enacting the last dogfight of WWII (with realistic sound effects provided by a man with a revolver in the commentry box!). As far as the other warbirds went, both Spitfire N3200 and MH434 put on lovely solos, with the latter displaying in front of a dramatic cloudscape on Saturday. Nigel Wilson's T-6 display was one of the best vintage trainer displays I've seen, with plenty of manoeuvres flown low, and pointing straight at the crowd. The best of the bunch for me, though, was an exceptionally low Hispano Buchon performance. When it came to the formation acts, Tiger 9, Little & Large and the Turbulent Team were as entertaining as ever, and the Matadors were absolutely exceptional, with an insanely precise display of formation aerobatics.

This is the live stream from Saturday's show, which was the better of the two days weather-wise. I very much enjoyed manning the wide angle camera. Sunday's stream is also available free on YouTube.

Old Buckenham Airshow made a triumphant return with its largest ever line-up in recent memory. As well as the traditional mix of warbirds and top civilian display teams, the show also welcomed the RAF Typhoon Display Team for the first time which was just one of the reasons the show was a complete sell-out with 16,000 spectators enjoying the air displays over two days.
