MCAS Cherry Point Airshow 2021
Got to see the Blue Angels do their orientation flight today while at work. It had just rained, so it was a vapor fest. The weather this weekend will be fantastic. I can't wait.
Also, caught a peak of the static display/air show layout map. The display area is sort of broken into two connected sections with the Disabled/VIP parking in the middle. The statics look surprisingly extensive.

Not sure what happened, but I see the F-22 Demo won't be performing at Cherry Point this weekend after all.
The line up is still great and the statics list looks good too, especially with the A-4s from Draken also.
Unfortunately I won't be able to make it down for the show this weekend, so I'll be looking forward to seeing
photos and videos from the show instead. Weather forecast looks great, so enjoy the show for those who are going !

Bummer about the F-22. Statics have been slowly trickling in today. Just saw the P-51 practice, so that's official. I believe it's "February" based in the paint scheme.

Final notes before the show. The practice today was awesome. The F-35B Demo looked a bit more tempered than what we saw at Beaufort in 2019, though there were some clouds at the time. MAGTF featured an F-18 and an F-35 in addition to the choppers. I couldn't believe how much louder the Blue's Super Hornets are. There is a Facebook post that leads me to believe the T-6 will be flying as well. After the practice ended, a J-3 Cub landed; I assume it will be a static display.

Gonna be a great day. The Raptor is still lined up with the performers. Cool to see some paint on the marine corps birds. The P-51 is "Miss Mimi II" "Mad Max". Also, Rob Reider's announcing. Let's go!

P-51 looks like “mad max”. From thunder over Michigan.

LMAO, third time's the charm.
Day one was fantastic. Pretty much everything went on without a hitch. The J-3 was flown by RJ Gritter; didn't realize he had a comedy routine. The MAGTF pyro stopped about half way through, so no Wall of Fire. Still cool to see the F-35 do some ACM.
Blue Angel 6 (btw, Lcdr. Cary Rickoff, "Chewie", was flying 6. Maybe I missed Lance Benson's departure, can anyone fill me in?) had an issue and went around on the landing. Very rare to see. Spoke to Rocket, and he said a landing gear was indicating that it wasn't locked, but it was probably a sensor malfunction. 6 did a trap on Runway 32L and the fire trucks rushed to the jet. We'll see if the tow the spare out tomorrow.
Besides those two things, it was a flawless show with flawless weather. Tomorrow should be the same.

Yep. Like I said, the Raptor Demo Team is still there. They moved one jet in since they aren't flying.
