This is definitely one to watch - so here's a bit of background. BIA is basically a continuation of the immensely promising Wings Over Baltics show that was founded in Jurmala in 2018, but at a venue with a much higher spectator capacity. The Baltic Bees (who run the show) have a great relationship with many of the European military teams and the way the old show quickly established itself was very impressive. The venue change and rebrand reflects their ambition to grow further.

That being said, while there is more room for spectators at Leipaja, ramp space is still extremely limited and for all the invites that have been sent out, I'm sceptical that the airport has the capacity to handle more than a couple of big aerobatic teams at once. Lack of taxyways is also going to be a problem - there's only one, which is half way down the runway, so every act is going to have to spend time backtracking on the runway and that could lead to a rather fragmented flying display. It's also a south-facing venue (the old one faced northeast) so the flying display will be backlit.

I'll certainly be keeping an eye on BIA as military schedules come out as it could easily be one of the strongest eastern European shows of the year. The Polish AF is likely to contribute strongly and it's looking good for the Frecce Tricolori also. As for the civilian pyro act, it's not very hard to work out from that description that it's Scanvinavian Airshows' Grumman Ag Cat, which also attended the debut Wings Over Baltics event in 2018.

First two flying display confirmations:
- Czech Air Force ALCA Role Demo (x2 L-159 ALCA)
- Czech Air Force JAS-39C Gripen

The show organiser is also dropping hints about the Black Eagles, but of course nothing is officially confirmed.
