Air Legend Paris - Villaroche 2022

Post by Adam » Sat Mar 12, 2022 10:33 am

Paris Air Legend will return on September 10-11 this year at Melun - Villaroche. First details will be announced in the coming days but it looks like a Korean War theme and the poster features the CL-13B Sabre and P-51D Mustang that were due to fly a two-ship pairs display in 2021, had the Mustang not been grounded due to technical problems. It's sure to be one of the top warbird airshows of the year.

Last year's highlight's compilation is here:

The show's website is now live and I'm delighted to see they are using my film from 2021 as the main media promoting the show (other than their 2022 poster, of course!)

This year's theme will be "the first jets". Based on previous shows, we can probably expect to see aircraft like Zephyrs, Magisters, MiG-15s, Vampires, Hunters, the T-33, the Paris, Patrouille Tranchant, Cocardes Marine and more. The potential is enormous! The first and only confirmed performer for now is Frédéric Akary's CL-13B Sabre Mk.6.

Earlybird ticket prices remain locked at €25 per day but on-the-gate prices have been raised from €32 to €40. The spotters package has been totally revamped. Multi-day packages are no longer available and instead visitors must book each day individually, but the prices work out broadly similar at €40 for Friday and €50 for Saturday/Sunday. Spotters access is no longer available on Monday (due to the runway used for departures being out of sight, it was essentially pointless anyway). I have updated the airshow guide linked in the previous post to reflect this new info.

"Yakovlevs" and "Patrouille Quijote" confirmed.

Quijote is a superb addition, not come across them in the past.

Indeed, it's certainly a very interesting catch! Also nice to see the Yakovlevs out and about, for what will be their first ever six-ship display outside of China, unless an earlier show books them later on. Their 6-ship routine is excellent and a completely different beast to their more usual four-ships.

Also confirmed today is Plane Sailing's PBY-5A Catalina. And I note from their website that the previously-announced Skyraider and Sabre will be doing a formation display along with a mystery aircraft still to be revealed.

Are you thinking of coming, FlankerPhoto?

Air Legend 2022 will feature a performance similar to the Rafale M/Corsair formation at last year's show, but with different aircraft.

Personally, I woul love to see Cocardes Marine. But the French probabluy do this sort of thing better than anybody else so I'm sure what ever they are planning will be pretty special.
