#OTD in 1946, at Pinecastle Army Airfield in central Florida, Bell Aircraft Test Pilot Jack Woolams made the first unpowered glide flight of the XS-1 supersonic research rocketplane, S/N 46-062. The XS-1 would go on to become the X-1; 46-062 would go on to become Glamorous Glennis and break the sound barrier with Chuck Yeager at the controls; and Pinecastle Army Airfield would go on to become what?

#OTD in 1946, Col. William Councill, U.S. Army Air Forces, Flew a Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star from Long Beach, CA, to New York, NY in a record-breaking 4 hours, 13 minutes, 26 seconds. His average speed was 584.82mph.

On this date in 2002 Boeing’s 737 reached 100 million flight hours. The 737 was launched in 1965.
