Super Hornet Down In Star Wars Canyon?

Post by RyanS » Wed Jul 31, 2019 8:06 pm

Sounds like an F/A-18 Super Hornet from China Lake crashed in or near Star Wars Canyon today. This report says the Father Crowley Overlook (part of Death Valley National Park) has been temporarily closed and someone on Twitter says that some park visitors have been injured. The area is very remote so we may not get details for a while

My condolences to those involved. That's horrible news.

As for DRSpeedmore...Maybe posting conjecture like the people who are injured are "Probably those who post videos of the jets" isn't the best idea at this point? Also not sure what the #F35 and #f22 have anything to do with this incident?

Again, Terrible news and a shock to the aviation spotters groups....But still people never cease to amaze me on social media.

Jet was from VFA-151. Lt. Cmdr. Lydia Bock, commander, Joint Strike Fighter Wing public affairs officer released the following statement.

“At approximately 10 a.m. PST, a F/A-18E Super Hornet assigned to the ‘Vigilantes’ of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 151 based at Naval Air Station Lemoore, California, crashed east of Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, California.

Pilot confirmed as Lt. Charles Z. Walker.

Another grim detail in this article. Apparently, those injured on the ground were French tourists. They recieved cuts and burns from shrapnel, and some will need to have skin grafts.

Hearing that the canyon is apparently back open to normal low level traffic. Can anyone confirm?

The below is what twigged my interest today... They would are not the official word, but they would certainly know the reality on the ground. Looks like I was premature in booking my Easter vacation in Florida.
