86 years ago today:
On October 23, 1934, Francesco Agello and the Macchi Castoldi M.C. 72 achieved the absolute world speed record for a piston-powered seaplane. Agello took his M.C. 72 to a new speed record of more than 700 km/h (709 km/h or 440 mph). No one has ever flown a piston-engine seaplane faster since that date.

It was #OTD in 1947 that the first flight of the Grumman HU-16 Albatross occurred. The Albatross was one of the first new aircraft the fly solely with the new "Star and Bar" roundel of the US which was adopted in September of 1947. The amphibian design was used by the US Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard, primarily as a search and rescue aircraft. Over 400 were built between 1947 and 1961. Have you ever seen one up close?

On this date in 2007 the first Airbus A380 passenger flight, Singapore Airlines flight SQ380, flew from Singapore and Sydney, Australia. A380s sometimes make excellent but cringeworthy videos. https://www.avgeekery.com/youve-seen-th ... 0-video-…/
