On this date in 2008 the first Boeing 787 Dreamliner rolled out of the factory. This modified jumbo makes it all happen.

Happy birthday to the Douglas A-26 Invader! The prototype XA-26 took its first flight #OTD in 1942 at the Douglas Aircraft Company's El Segundo Division based at Los Angeles Municipal Airport (now, LAX), with Douglas test pilot Benjamin Odell Howard at the controls.
The CAF has three A-26s in the fleet, plus one more on static display at CAF Airbase Arizona. The A-26 is often confused with the Martin B-26 Marauder, because after the Marauder retired, the Invader was re-designated B-26. It was then changed back to A-26 in the Vietnam Era, as the Invader has seen action in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.

On this date in 1940 the Battle of Britain began. There were several films made about this epic aerial battle.

#OTD in 1995, space shuttle Discovery lifted-off to begin her 21st flight with a crew of five, including Dr. Don Thomas.
Thomas recounted the #STS70 mission and the astronauts from Ohio in a beautiful book, "Orbit of Discovery".
