61 years ago today the Canadair CT-114 (CL-41) Tutor flew for the first time.
Sure, it's post-war, but how could we let the birthday of the Canadair CT-114 Tutor pass without comment? It was #OTD in 1960 that the aircraft that would become the Canadian Forces Snowbirds' famous ride took its first flight. Have you ever seen the Snowbirds perform?

99 years ago today WWII ace and test pilot Clarence Emil "Bud" Anderson was born.
Join us in wishing Triple Ace Bud Anderson a very happy 99th birthday today!

Clarence Emil "Bud" Anderson flew the P-51 "Old Crow" to 16.25 victories in the European theater during WWII and was promoted to Major at the ripe old age of 22! He served in the USAF from its inception in 1947 until 1972, retiring as a full colonel. He is a good friend to SUN 'n FUN and has been an honored guest at the fly in over the years. All the best, Bud!

68 years ago today the Convair F2Y Sea Dart flew for the first time.
The period immediately following WWII saw a myriad of aircraft ideas tried, and one of the wildest was the Convair F2Y Sea Dart, which first flew #OTD in 1953. A supersonic interceptor seaplane, the delta-winged F2Y rode on a pair of retractible skis for take off and landing. Five prototypes were built, but after a series of poor trials and a tragic accident destroying one of the prototypes and killing test pilot Charles Richbourg, the program was cancelled and the Sea Dart never went into production. If you have ever been to the annual SUN 'n FUN fly-in, you've probably seen their Sea Dart (on loan from the US Navy) displayed outside the The Florida Air Museum. Do you know what happened to the other prototypes?
