55 years ago today, the F-111B, a Navy variant of the F-111 Aardvark flew for the first time. It was intended to serve as the Navy's long-range interceptor but never went into production due to the airplane's development issues and changing Navy requirements for an aircraft with maneuverability for dogfighting.
