Captain Dárdano, a one-eyed pilot, deadsticked a stricken Boeing 737 onto a New Orleans levee on this date back in 1988. He's a fascinating hero with an incredible story.

44 years ago today, the Boeing E-3 Sentry, better known as the AWACS flew for the first time.
