Good morning Avgeekery Nation! Our eye opener this morning is the General Dynamics-Gurmman EF-111A Raven. On this date in 1991 a Raven or 'Spark Vark' maneuvered a pursuing Iraqi Mirage F1EQ fighter into the ground and became the only F-111 to score an aerial victory.

54 years ago today, a mid-air collision occurred which became the subject of a book titled "One Of Our H-Bombs Is Missing".
On this date in 1966, a Strategic Air Command Boeing B-52G (58-0256) armed with four Mk-28 hydrogen bombs collided with a KC-135 (61-0273) over Palomares, Spain. The event was a true cold war nightmare.

109 years since Eugene Burton Ely became the first pilot to land a powered aircraft on a ship.
Good morning Avgeekery Nation! Our eye opener this morning is none other than Eugene Burton Ely. Ely was the first to both takeoff (on November 14 1910) and land (on this date in 1911) a powered aircraft (his Curtiss Pusher biplane) from a ship.

On this date in 1991, Eastern Airlines was dissolved after 64 years of operation. They've made several comeback bids and it looks like another one is in the offing. We'll see, but we sure loved those gorgeous 'Whisperjet' liveries!
