Hawker Tempest Undergoing Restoration

Post by n33d4sp33d_85 » Mon Jan 13, 2020 3:16 am

Hawker Tempest progress

There is a fair chance that we will be able to enjoy a flying Hawker Tempest this summer. The long term restoration of Tempest II MW763 (G-TEMT) has accelerated in the last months since it was taken up by Richard Graces’ Air Leasing.

The fighter, which was salvaged in India where it flew as HS586, will be powered by an original Bristol Centaurus V engine. It was overhauled in-house at Weald Aviation, North Weald Airfield (UK) and is said to be installed soon. When finished G-TEMT will be finished as 'PR533' in a silver polished post war colour scheme with blue spinner.

The 1945 built MW763 was acquired by Anglia Aircraft Restorations Ltd. in April 2016. Its owner, Graham Peacock, also owns the TF-51D Mustang "Contrary Mary", P-47D Thunderbolt I "Nellie B", Spitfire Mk.V EE602, Spitfire Mk.XIV MV268, Hurricane Mk.I P2902, Hawker Fury SR661 and Buchon "White 9". He also has a Messerschmidt Bf109G-2 (WkNr.14798) under restoration at Air Leasing, as well as two Bf109F projects and two other Tempest projects registered (one being a Mk.V variant). This is what you call an impressive collection!

MW376, located in British Columbia, is also progressing towards first flight. This one will be powered by a R-2800.
