Second batch of AW109E helicopters delivered to Nigeria

On 15 January 2020, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) boosted its strength by receiving the second batch of two new AgustaWestland AW109E Power helicopters. The two desert camouflaged AW109Es, serials NAF578 (c/n 11846) and NAF579 (c/n 11847), with associated equipment and spares, arrived at Abuja/Nnamdi Azikiwe Int. (Nigeria) on board a Cargolux Airline Boeing 747-400F arriving from Milan/Malpensa Int. (Italy).

The first batch of AW109E Power helicopters, serials NAF576 (c/n 11844) and NAF577 (c/n 11845), was inducted into NAF service on 29 April 2019.

To complete the overview of AW109s within the NAF: the first AW109E delivered, grey coloured NAF570 (c/n 11767), was written off during a crash in mid-November 2019. Next to that, Nigeria has a complement of five AW109LUHs in its inventory: serials NAF571 until NAF575.
