https://www.scramble.nl/military-news/f ... eservationForgotten Huns destined for preservation?
It recently came to the ears of Scramble magazine that two long term Mojave (CA) inmates, being North American TF-100F Super Sabres, are destined to become museum pieces.
Affectively named the "Hun", the Super Sabres in question, with registration numbers N417FS (c/n 243-118) and N418FS (c/n 243-272), were recently owned by Big Sky Warbirds LLc, Belgrade (MT) and have been stored in a forlorn corner of Mojave Air & Space Port (CA) since at least 2002.
In the fall of 2020, aviation enthusiast Darryl Weflen, purchased both F-100s at an online auction.
Before they were stored at Mojave, the two Tracor Flight Systems TF-100Fs flew in the eighties and nineties in Europe as an aerial target-tow aircraft from Wittmundhafen air base (Germany).
Before that, they were flown by the Flyvevåbnet (RDAF, Royal Danish Air Force) with serial numbers GT-842 (N417FS) and GT-996 (N418FS). The Danish serials are derived from their former USAF and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) serials 56-3842 respectively 56-3996.
At this moment it is not known where the Super Sabres eventually will end up.
The owner, Darryl Weflen, is definitely planning to donate them to a museum. Multiple museums in the US and Canada have been named.
