Highlights from Glenview NAS July-Aug 1993. This includes the end of the GNAS Air Expo July 93. Had a ton of various transient aircraft!! Lot's of F-14 Tomcats mainly A and D models (with one F-14A with its glove vanes out during the overhead!), Hornets, Prowlers and Intruders! Also one of the EA-6B Prowlers leaving the Air Expo did a low high speed pass while departing, and was easily the fastest I personally have ever seen a Prowler. Hope you enjoy it.

Happy Birthday F-14A Tomcat!! A llittle demo action from Grisson ARB in 2000. No, not Glenview but the closest AFB/ARB to Chicago. The Tomcat was a beast and first flew 51 years ago! I'll be posting more Glenview Tomcat videos for the Tomcat birth!

Highlight from full video of the F-15C Eagle from the 131st FW MO ANG doing some hot low approaches at Glenview July 1994. He even flew over the B-52 parked on runway 09/27 and gave them a great show!! Always loved the Eagles coming into GNAS.

Am I correct that your father's first name was Tom and his car license plate was "ARDVARK?

There was a group of photographers that frequented the North end of the runway; unofficially referred to as the "runway rats."

Those were good years. I worked a few miles away in Skokie and spent a lot of lunch hours watching the local reserve squadrons of P3s and C130s doing touch and goes. The transient traffic was unpredictable but Tom (and a few others) seemed aware of some traffic in advance.

YES including the car and license plate lol!! Dad's name was Tom and I am his son Casey (little kid always throwing rocks haha). Yeah we were always on the North end or West end by taxiway where the business park was located. We always had our scanners, but had contacts to the T-Line and they would give us a heads up on all the transient stuff coming in, but most of the time just luck.

Another highlight from June-July of 1993 at GNAS. Had some great trainer action come in T-2 Buckeys, TA-4J Skyhawks, lots of T-38's, T-37 Tweets! Even had a few F-14 "D" model Tomcats, A-6E Intruder, EA-6B Prowler and some Hornets visit. Capped off at the end with a TA-4J Aggressor from VF-43 Challengers with a great takeoff! Enjoy!

More Glenview action!! This video was shot in late 1993 through early 94 and we had some unique things happen. We had not one but two different S-3 Vikings make emergency traps (One during the day, one at night) using the arresting gear a couple weeks apart from each other. This was the first time of many (all land based) that I saw a plane use its hook to trap (oddly most were USAF and not USN or USMC). Cold, cold, COLD Chicago weather but ended up catching a lot of cool stuff.

Fun highlights:
Blue Angels Fat Albert showed up for the planning session to host the Blue Angels at GNAS for the 1994 Chicago Air & Water Show.
Had a nice hover show from a couple resident UH-1 as well including the CAG helio!! They liked to play around at the base a whole bunch.
And a pair of AV-8B Harriers also were playing around and hovering for an entire weekend as they were stationing out of GNAS for an exercise.

1994 would be the last "full" year before Glenview NAS would close flying operations in Feb the following year in Feb 1995. Most of the aircraft that would visit in 1994 knew it would most likely be the last time they would visit GNAS. This would also be the last of the flying operations at GNAS for the KC-130 Marines VMGR-234 Rangers as they would move to Ft Worth JRB in Aug 1994. Some great KC-130 flying action including a very tight tandem overhead break. F-14A Tomcat VF-111 Sundowners paid a visit and some C-5 Galaxy action including a very low departure. Enjoy!
