USS Bonhomme Richard on fire

The amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6) is on fire in the port of navy base San Diego. So far, eighteen crew members have been transported to hospital.

The fire started on Sunday morning, 12 July 2020, around 08:30 hrs local time. Fire crews are battling an ongoing blaze aboard the amphibious assault ship.

The primary mission of the ship is to embark, deploy and land elements of a Marine landing force in amphibious assault operations by helicopter, landing craft and amphibious vehicle, and if needed, to act as a light aircraft carrier.

This is absolutely ridiculous to follow, the ship is certainly a total loss. I saw a diagram explaining that the fire started at a low deck near the stern and it has now burned all the way up to the island (some of which collapsed) and into the bow spaces. It has literally gone through the entire ship.

The ship also appears to be listing to the side and down at the bow as well.

There were a bunch of videos in this post that showed close up angles during the night and this morning, but it looks like they've been made private now.

Absolutely insane that a capital ship can be totally lost in an incident like this.
