China's Assault Landing Helicopter Dock Initiates Sea Trials

Post by n33d4sp33d_85 » Thu Aug 06, 2020 9:37 pm

On Wednesday 5 August China has passed another milestone with the initiation of the sea trials of the first class 075 Assault Landing Helicopter Dock (“LHD”).

The first trials were intended to start on 1 August, exactly 93 years after the People Liberation Army (PLA) was established, but bad weather prevented any sailing.

The ship was build by the Hudong–Zhonghua Shipbuilding company in Shanghai. It is believed that the ship can carry up to thirty helicopters, including the Z-18 and a ten metre long helicopter drone, both of which saw extensive fitment checks during the last part of the shipbuilding process.

A second LHD is currently also being build in Shanghai and a third ship is believed to be coming soon after.

Next step after the sea trials should be to receive some more helicopters, although it has been relatively quiet on deliveries the last couple of years.
