A321P2F makes maiden flight

On Wednesday 22 January the first A321 conversion freighter took off for its maiden flight in Singapore. The A321P2F designated freighter was developed by Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW) from Dresden in corporation with ST Engineering from Singapore. The aircraft took off from Singapore-Selatar airport at 15:31 hours local time, wearing German registration D-ANJA.

The aircraft is MSN 835 and was built in 1998. It was delivered in June 1998 to BMI – British Midland Airways where it flew as G-MIDC. In 2011 the aircraft was sold to Onur Air where it flew as TC-OBJ until October 2018. The aircraft was ferried to Singapore to become the A321P2F prototype one month later.

The EFW / ST Engineering A321P2F enables the transport of fourteen freight pallets or a payload of 27.9 tons over distances of up to 4,260 kilometres. ST Engineering developed the technical details, while EFW is responsible for the programme management and marketing of the aircraft.

After certification the aircraft will be delivered to Express Freighters Australia who will lease the aircraft from lease company Vallair. Express Freighters Australia will operate the aircraft on behalf of Qantas freight.
