Shuttleworth Collection Drive-in Airshow - 18th July (UK)

Post by Flightline Uk » Mon Jun 29, 2020 10:05 am

18th July

https://www.shuttleworth.org/events/drivein-airshow-july/

ADVANCE BOOKING ONLY. Please note, no ticket sales on the gate.

Shuttleworth’s first socially distanced, drive-in airshow. Drive-in and set up your picnic next to your vehicle, with limited crowd size you will have a great view from wherever you are parked.

Bring an FM radio to tune into commentary and pre-show music, before a flying display programme of some of our best-loved aircraft from the DH88 Comet and Westland Lysander. Enjoy the unmistakable sound of our Spitfire, and if the weather is kind our pilots will do their magnificent best in our early Edwardian aircraft!

On-site takeaway catering will be available, plenty of clean toilets and sanitiser.

AIRCRAFT

Army Co-op: Lysander, Po2, L6 Cub
Gliders: Fauvel, Eon Primary, English Electric Wren
Trainers: Chipmunk, Miles Magister, Piston Provost, Avro Tutor
Aeros: Extra 330, Redhawk
Civillian: DH51 ‘Miss Kenya’, DH60X, Desoutter, DH82a Tiger Moth, Cub
WWI: Sopwith Pup, Sopwith Camel, Sopwith Triplane, Bristol M1C
WW2: Spitfire AR501, Sea Hurricane
Racers: DH88 Comet, Mew Gull, Mew Gull DB (red)
*Edwardians: Bleriot, Bristol Boxkite, Avro Triplane, Blackburn Monoplane
*Subject to optimal conditions for these very early aircraft

Note: This will be a quite different event from our traditional airshows to allow us to comply with legal regulations and guidance around COVID-19.

We ask that you:
Ensure you have a working FM radio. Our commentator and pre-show music/information will broadcast on Station 87.8 ‘Shuttleworth FM’.

Please remain in the area around your vehicle to enjoy the airshow. You will have a good view from where you are parked and we are not permitted to allow crowds to gather along the fence line to watch the show.

You will be parked in a marked space within a ‘Zone’. Each Zone has its own dedicated Welfare Hub: A block of toilets, sanitising station and a refreshment outlet selling hot drinks and snacks. A Shuttleworth steward will be on duty in each zone. Please respect social distancing if you need to approach our staff or volunteers.

Be considerate of others – no stepladders, raised tailgates, gazebos or sitting on the roof of vehicles.

Please be aware:

This is a Drive-In show. Motorcycles are permitted but unfortunately, this event is not suitable for pedestrians.

Shuttleworth Swiss Garden, Play Area, Restaurant, Gift shop and Shuttleworth House are closed during this event. To keep visitors and staff safe we ask that you keep within the spirit of the law by not exploring the site, maintaining exemplary social distancing, and staying within your allocated space to watch the display.

There are no ground activities such as Discovery Zones or vehicle parade.

Dogs on leads are permitted if kept within the vicinity of the vehicle.

Staff and stewards at the event will be temperature-checked on arrival and will be wearing suitable PPE.

Last weekend saw the first Drive-In Airshow in the UK at the Shuttleworth Collection. Old Warden Aerodrome is perhaps the venue in the UK best suited to Drive-In style events with the main paddock area where spectators watch from on a slight slope looking over the main runway. It all worked very well and credit must go to all the Collection staff and volunteers for making it a smooth and enjoyable experience. The show itself centred on Old Warden based aircraft with just a Pitts Special and the Aircraft Restoration Company's 'NHS Spitfire' visiting from elsewhere.
