Glad to see they found a new venue! I will be interested to see reports on how the show goes. Flying Legends has always been a bucket list airshow for me and I hope it's still of that caliber.

Leeds East Airport (known as RAF Church Fenton from 1937 until its disposal in 2013) is situated between Leeds and York in North Yorkshire. The military held a series of annual airshows there between 1963 and 1994 with sparodic Battle of Britain At Home and Empire air days prior to those. In 2015 the airport hosted its own airshow with a view to it being a regular date on the airshow calendar. It took place just weeks after the Shoreham accident and almost didn't happen at all, save for the team radically changing the layout of the event with barely days to go. In addition the event coincided with the final days of the Vulcan being permitted to fly and, since it was booked to display at LEA, the crowds were unprecedented and the traffic plan overwhelmed, which seems to be the only aspect of the show that many people seem to remember. That's a real shame because the Vulcan and 2x Gnats routine was a real highlight, not to mention all the jet and piston warbirds (Meteor, Venom, MiG 15, JP as well as those ready mentioned, Spitfires, Hurricane, P-40, P-51, Dakota etc). Alas, the 2016 event was cancelled when the organisers failed to secure the coveted military assets they wanted lesding to a slow uptake in ticket sales. Fast forward to August 2022 and a visit by The Fighter Collection's P-40F Warhawk which flew an unexpected but very enjoyable display routine, landing shortly afterwards. And here we are, it would appear that TFC were indeed looking for a new home for their show and LEA was chosen. The decision to relocate so far north, and to hold the event on the same day as RIAT, has ruffled feathers. My own view is that the north of England has been starved of events for a number of years when the south has enjoyed an abundance, necessitating a 3 and a half hour journey each way to Duxford for myself for instance (which I did for a number of years), much further for those in the north east, north west and Scotland. There is a decent catchment area with Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield and Newcastle so I can see no reason why it should not be the success we all hope it will be. LEA also hosts a number of other events throughout the year, indeed there is an aviation event being staged there the week prior to FL23, and various Young Drivers courses, corporate events, supercar track days and more, which I suspect has forced TFCs hand in the matter. Church Fenton itself has its own railway station on the Leeds/York line with connectivity to the south and the north, the station is about a mile away from the main gate of the airport. The timetable is very good on Saturdays and reasonable on Sundays (assuming the current spate of strikes are finished by then). The airfield still retains a tangible air of history, thanks largely to some of the original features such as the pre-war expansion C type hangars and various dispersal located around the perimeter.
