#OTD in 1946, at Pinecastle Army Airfield in central Florida, Bell Aircraft Test Pilot Jack Woolams made the first unpowered glide flight of the XS-1 supersonic research rocketplane, S/N 46-062. The XS-1 would go on to become the X-1; 46-062 would go on to become Glamorous Glennis and break the sound barrier with Chuck Yeager at the controls; and Pinecastle Army Airfield would go on to become what?
