So what significant COVID protocols did you encounter?

Is it possible to social distance at an airshow?

EAA has alluded to a number of strategies for AirVenture (e.g., multiple show lines, additional facilities for washing/sanitation, etc.). I'm also guessing they expect most members to have been vaccinated.

Thanks in advance,

srd

Absolutely none. Maybe 1% of people wore masks during the day (much respect to them!) but that's about it. The show had signs up on every building that masks were required to enter but everyone ignored them, including many volunteers and vendors. The trams had a sign recommending masks but no requirement to wear one. Food areas had large community tables jammed together; some people were shoulder to shoulder while forming lines and eating.

The one good thing was that during the week it wasn't busy enough for the seating area by us (on the end of the line) to get super crowded so for the vast majority of the day we had a bit of space. The main seating areas looked about as dense as usual. On Saturday, someone pulled their chair right up next to Anthony's and when he got a look from us simply said "Don't worry, I'm vaccinated" and carried on.

If I had attended without a vaccine (I wouldn't have), I am confident I would have gotten infected given the huge number of people co-mingling all week. Even with the vaccine, I am avoiding friends and family until next weekend just in case.

It seemed like a normal Saturday at Sun 'n Fun. My son wore a mask all day and I did in the morning. Once it got sunny, I switched to a buff, because I don't like sunscreen and I don't like skin cancer either. We were in the preferred seating area with chairs. For us, we had a row of 3 seats and small table to ourselves, so it wasn't too bad during the shows.

It was pretty much like the two shows I went to around here in Florida at the end of 2020. There were a few more masks worn at those shows, but the majority weren't. Plus, distancing was totally ignored.
