Re: First Airshow and a beginner. What should I use and tips?

My own advice would be to shoot shutter-priority automatic, setting the shutter speed that you want, or fully manual, setting both shutter and aperture. Going fully manual would assume no lighting change through the segments of the show, i.e. no sudden cloud shadows dropping the light level. Pick so...

Re: Opinion and input please

I've got to disagree mildly with the scrimp on the body if you can get a better lens. A great lens will pretty much always shoot well, but a compromised body will not have the AF capability you need, or the rapid-fire continuous shooting you probably want. Years ago when I upgraded myself from a D50...

Re: In the Cockpit

This isn't so much a cockpit closeup, but you can see in the wingman what it takes to fly formation; he's looking at nothing but the leader's airplane, and holding his relative position. (Team Redline)

Re: Evening/Night Shots

This was, as far as I know, the next-to-last Fat Albert JATO, November 14, 2008, during the twilight/night show of the Homecoming show at Pensacola NAS. (The last one was the next afternoon during the final daytime show of the year.) Camera at this time was a D50, not the best low-light camera ever ...

Re: Air Force Thunderbirds Photography

Just found this board yesterday, my first post here. Some shots from the Gulf Coast Salute April 2015 at Tyndall AFB, Florida. I live in Panama City, so it's not to hard to justify trudging the 15 miles or so to the show. It rained on and off the whole day on Saturday, many of the performers were un...
