MCAS Miramar To Receive 1st Batch of F-35Cs

Post by n33d4sp33d_85 » Wed Jan 15, 2020 7:24 pm

The first F-35Cs to be based at MCAS Miramar (CA) are planned to arrive on 21 January 2020.

Marine Corps Air Station Miramar will welcome the aircraft that are assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 314 “Black Knights” ('VW-xxx'), currently based at NAS Lemoore (CA). VMFA-314 said goodbye to the F/A-18C/D in June 2019 and transitioned to the F-35C. Since September 2019, the squadron has been preparing for the Safe For Flight (SFF) certification.

Both the F-35B and F-35C are replacing the US Marine Corps ageing legacy Hornets, AV-8B Harrier IIs and EA-6B Prowlers. The service is procuring a total of 420 of the two versions.
