Low levels in the Pacific Northwest 🗻✈️

While we do our best to bring you the best of the demonstration team, we can't always capture everything. And that's where awesome photographers like Julian Elnasser come in.

On our way to the TriCity WaterFollies airshow a few weeks back, BEO and our Safety Officer flew over #Rimrock Lake, WA. The sorties we fly to and from our shows actually count as tactical training for our combat-ready pilots. They get great experience, you get great photos.

Thanks to Julian and his friends for getting these sick shots!

Lobo FAIP special markings

On 24 September 2020, Dylan Phelps photographed this T-1A Jayhawk in special "Lobo FAIP" markings at Dyess AFB (TX). The Jayhawk, serial 92-0346 (construction number TT-60), is operated by the 86th Flying Training Squadron "Rio Lobos" at Laughlin AFB (TX).

FAIP stands for First Assignment Instructor Pilot. Of note is that the opposite wing is painted all black and that the squadrons emblem is painted just below the cockpit. The parent unit, 47th Flying Training Wing (FTW), is one of four FTWs operating the T-1A Jayhawk.

The twin-engined Raytheon T-1A Jayhawk (a military version of the Hawker 400) is used by the USAF for advanced pilot training. Students trained on it usually go on to fly cargo aircraft or aerial refuellers. It is also used for the training of Air Force Combat Systems Officers in high and low level flight procedures during the advanced phase of training.

A total of 180 T-1 trainers were delivered between 1992 and 1997. The first T-1A was delivered to Reese AFB (TX) in January 1992.

The Flying Training Wings operating the T-1A Jayhawk are:
12th FTW with the 99th FTS "Panthers" ('RA') at Randolph AFB (TX) and 451st FTS ('AP') at NAS Pensacola (FL)
14th FTW with the 48th FTS "Alley Cats" ('CB') at Columbus AFB (MS)
47th FTW with the 86th FTS "Rio Lobos" ('XL') at Laughlin AFB (TX)
71st FTW with the 3rd FTS "Jayhawks" ('VN') at Vance AFB (OK)

Early October 2019, ASES LLc., also known as Field Aerospace, Oklahoma City (OK) was awarded a USD 21,4 million contract by the US Air Force to exercise the so-called Option One for a full rate production to begin for the Raytheon T-1A Jayhawk Avionics Modification Programme. In April 2018, the USAF already awarded a USD 155,7 million modernization contract to Field Aerospace for the upgrade 178 T-1A's with a new integrated avionics system from 2019. Work will be performed at Randolph AFB (TX); Laughlin AFB (TX); Vance AFB (OK); Columbus AFB (MS) and NAS Pensacola (FL), with an expected programme completion date of 14 August 2025. With the modification, the fleet of T-1As will continue to fly into the 2030s.

Royal Navy Wildcat is showing its new set of teeth. Late April, early May 2020, the Navy Wildcat HM2 made its first successfull firings of the Thales "Martlet" Lightweight Multirole Missile (LMM), making the Wildcat ideal for engaging fast moving targets on land and sea.

The firings were conducted as part of the UK MoD’s Future Anti-Surface Guided Weapon (FASGW) programme and demonstrated the integration of the Martlet onto the Wildcat platform. The firings represented a major milestone for the programme and will enable this high-end capability to enter service with the Royal Navy later this year.

It is not known yet if the Wildcat HM2 designation will change with this new role.

Yesterday, one of the world’s few remaining flyable The Boeing Company B747SPs arrived non-stop at Hamburg from Palmdale (CA).

The mini-Jumbo involved is NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s N747NA, which is a SP-21 with c/n 21441 and has l/n 306. It was originally delivered as N536PA to PanAm in May 1977. In Feburary 1986 it moved to United to fly as N145UA and was eventually phased-out in July 1995.

Two years later the aircraft was acquired by the NASA and operated as N145UA until 2005 when it got its current registration.

The NASA is using this aircraft in cooperation with the German DLR as an aerial telescope for the SOFIA-project. SOFIA is short for Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy.

N747NA will be at Hamburg until February 2021 as it will receive a C-Check by Lufthansa Technik.

Ahmed Hader has been so kind to share some of his incredible stunning imagines of the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft that recently have been painted for Saudi National Day.

Since the last few years it has become a tradition for several Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft to receive special colors and markings to commemorate the occasion. This year the following aircraft received various “90 years” and “vision 2030” markings:

A330-202MRTT (serial 2406)
F-15C (serial 203)
F-15S (serial (9231)
Tornado IDS (serial unknown)
Typhoon (serial 1006)

Hard work on the ground and a little less in the air. An F/A-18F of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 154 "Black Knights" overflying a forest fire in California.
