Not sure if anyone from here plans to come up to this show that isn't in the New England Buzzers group but they just posted their list of banned items and they have lenses longer than 12" on it. I wrote on their page about how foolish this is and how the Sound of Speed air show in MO tried going this route and caved due to all the out cry.
I hope if anyone is planning on going, you'll comment on the thread so we can more people complaining about it. There's no security risk of a lens longer than 12"....
If this isn't allowed, please delete.
This was what I wrote,
So I see your restricted items have been posted. The 12” lens restriction has to be dropped. The Sound of Speed show in MO tried this this year and got blasted on social media till they dropped this limit.
None of the New England air shows have ever had this restriction, even the civilian run shows at Pease never did.
I’ve gone to Nellis & Oceana, 2 major military bases and they don’t even have that restriction. The majority of the pictures air shows websites use are from lenses over 12”….
With Pease having the furthest distance from runway from the edge of the ramp, it will be literally impossible to get any decent pictures of the acts from on base.
Thank you for the considering this huge problem.

Pease sometimes prohibits step ladders, even the very small ones. No mention of this.
Hope they can clarify the "12 inches" on cameras and lenses. Several shows have tried to do this, but have been unsuccessful.
Oceana tried the unpopular photographers passes one year, but did not use it again.
Nellis also tried one year, but security could not agree what was Ok and what was not, so all were allowed in (but there were unfortunate instances where photographers were turned away).
I know some years getting into the show from I-95 has been a nightmare. Hope this year is one of the good ones where they solve this problem.

I did Pease in 2013, once the light crosses the rwy around midday the golf club parking lot was the place to be, dunno if they still offer this, but I rather enjoyed it (Will avoid the lens restriction.).
The lens restriction is arbitrary madness. I was at Nellis in 2010 where such a ban was randomly established by an over zealous airman. It wrought havoc on those with the right gear... Many of whom had travelled huge distances and were not willing to abandon their kit in their cars. A call to Nellis PAO sorted the issue but the damage was done for many.
I expect a lot of photogs are in for a rude surprise when they get turned away at the gates.
Truly an avoidable gaffe.
