Westmoreland County Airshow 2023
Is this area on the hill at the south east corner still open to watch the show? Great place to shoot and the crowd always stayed along the fence line.

Yes, that's where we were today. Layout is generally the same as pre-drive-in. The hill area is a little smaller and farther back, but still a great spot.

That’s good news. Hopefully they got rid of whoever dreamed up last year’s layout fiasco.
This is where we always go.
Maybe we will return next year then.

Once again I'm a little late to the party but let me say I thoroughly enjoyed my first trip to Latrobe. A few things:
1. The Thunderbirds did an OUTSTANDING job on Saturday and Sunday.
2. I have to thank Matt for providing some insight into this show. Turns out the entire ramp was used and boy was it packed. I heard upwards of 30,000 people showed up on Saturday and maybe a little less on Sunday. Either way that was a PACKED ramp - it almost felt like and looked like the days of the Rhode Island airshow.
3. I still don't understand the whole idea of parking vendors directly on the crowd line and in front of the Thunderbirds. Seemed like a waste of valuable space. Since it was just me I took a spot near show center near the vehicles that were parked on the crowd line.
4. The parking for general admission to the show area definitely was a hike.
5. All of the performers were fantastic. The Northern Stars reminded me of the days when Pepsi Or Coca Cola and Holiday Inn had a multi-ship Pitts team back in the 80s or 90s. That was some good formation flying. I'd go out of my way to see them again, even if it means going to Canada.
6. On Saturday I couldn't help but notice the large number of cameras set up on tripods (and one that wasn't) in front of the show line and then it dawned on me that they were the livestream team. They were there again on Sunday and I took some time during the show to see their setup from outside... wow. It looked way more complicated than it appeared.
7. Seeing the Citation X that was once owned by Arnold Palmer was great. I know my father and late grandfather would have enjoyed that seeing as they both enjoyed golf and followed the PGA tour closely.
This was worth the five hour drive from Delaware and I've got to convince the family to come out next year.

Had a fun time last weekend. All of the performers from the Thunderbirds to the Northern Stars Aeroteam were spectacular. An added bonus was seeing the arrival of the world's only airworthy C-123 Provider prior to the start of the show on Saturday after being weathered in on Friday. I'm currently working on my videos from the show, so stay tuned. In the meantime, here's a couple shots of me with the airshow announcer "Fast" Eddie Leuter and Captain Lindsay "MAD" Johnson, the demo pilot for the A-10 Demo Team.
