Wow. HFS. I move back to my home state to be closer to family and get this piece of news. In doing my own research, I think you also forgot that there is one outlet that is basically saying hold up, wait until the FACTS get reported (see below) without any sort of discussion.

https://wpgtalkradio.com/report-about-t ... premature/

I suppose this is why everyone's been tight-lipped about this year's airshow. Maybe that's why the Italians didn't commit? I have so many questions I don't know where to begin. Why is this now labeled *CANCELLED?* when there's no official word? Perhaps that was very premature.

It's a good thing none of us have yet booked our casino stays in August.

The airshow is dealing with some "unfunded mandates" from the state of New Jersey that are new for 2024 that significantly increased the budget spends for this year and will also have ramifications for the future airshows as well as concerts, etc in Atlantic City. The Chamber of Commerce continues to work on funding for these new requirements. We have a performer roster ready to release and some of the performers have already posted the event on their schedules.

The media reports are inaccurate and very premature at this time. WOND is not affiliated with the airshow anymore as WPG is our primary radio simulcast station for the event. NJ.COM also has an agenda which is more about sensationalism than news.

We have every intent to have the 2024 event. This event annually has a significant positive economic impact for Atlantic City and the area. Please have patience with the Chamber of Commerce while they work out the new funding. We had several positive discussions last week with numerous folks. With this being a FREE show to the general public, sponsorships and in-kind contributions are what has made this show happen for the past 20 years. Both the Chamber and Schultz Airshows want the 2024 and other events to happen in the future.

Thank you for the clarification, David.

The media reports from WOND, NJ.cot, and the Press of AC (which is behind a paywall but I managed to figure out a way to read it without paying) did exactly what they were meant to do - and of course ASS joining in and showcasing inaccurate information because they have to be first in airshow "news". I'm glad the airshow has one media outlet that's on the correct side and intent on reporting the facts. IMO, whoever decided to make this from "CANCELLED?" to "TBD" should remove that TBD.

My wife and I (actually much of our extended family, too) visit AC a few times a year for all the things older adults typically do in AC and usually stay overnight in one of the casinos (usually one of Tropicana, Caesars, Hard Rock, or Borgata). We'll hold off on booking the airshow week rooms until everything's officially announced, and look forward to what you've got in store for this year's airshow.

Let's be clear - no one from AirshowStuff has said or done anything on this matter.

This is a community forum and community members can make posts. The calendar (which I do control) does not have any "cancelled" label on AC until the outcome is more clear. However, local media posting reports about the future viability of a show is certainly fair game for discussion, and all I see here is an honest attempt to inform the community about potential issues based on publicly available information. Discussions like this are exactly why the forum exists.

I agree 100% that what was shared is worth discussing, but to take the topic thread and immediately question the show as a result, regardless of who did it, jumped the gun. I'm sure there's probably going to be a large chunk of regular attendees that are probably googling "2024 Atlantic City Airshow" after reading what's been posted and then coming here looking to find more information, a different approach to it, a different discussion, maybe someone who has an in with the city knows something, etc.

In the end, it's good there's finally something out there about this year's Atlantic City Airshow. Summer at the Jersey Shore wouldn't be the same without an airshow over AC.

Why can't the Casinos put up the $300K?

They have plenty of money and the show is good for their business.

I got around the Press of Atlantic City's paywall for you all:
ATLANTIC CITY — The 2024 Atlantic City Airshow will happen after all, Gov. Phil Murphy said Tuesday.

“The Atlantic City Airshow brings thousands of spectators to the beaches of Atlantic City every year and is essential to the success of the city’s economy," Murphy said in a statement. "We’re thrilled to announce a partnership with the South Jersey Transportation Authority and Atlantic City International Airport to ensure this fantastic event takes place this summer.”

As part of the agreement, the SJTA will be providing $300,000 in funding for the event and be a presenting sponsor, officials said.

The airshow is run by the Greater Atlantic City Chamber.

The future of the airshow was called into question Monday after Mayor Marty Small Sr. said Monday on WOND Radio’s “The Don Williams Show” that there have been discussions with the state about possible funding needed for the show to continue.

On Sunday night, WOND reported on its Facebook page that the airshow had been postponed for the next two years because of funding issues. The post has since been deleted.

A lot of this is going to be off-topic but everyone here will appreciate it.

As someone who regularly visits Atlantic City and has had extended family working for one of the casinos, it's not that easy. If you ever looked back in time the casinos were listed as host hotels on the airshow website: I've stayed at Borgata many times during airshow week only to realize Borgata was the host hotel for the airshow up until recently. The casinos themselves have always been saying "we're in a cash crunch". It's good for their business of packing their parking garages at a premium but for a family event I would venture a guess and say they don't like it when there's all these under-21 people in town that cannot legally pull a handle on a one-armed bandit, spin a roulette wheel, or double down or split a pair of 10s in blackjack.

I do agree the casinos - at least the ones along the Boardwalk - could send some dollars towards the airshow in exchange for a larger part of the airshow sponsorship, but you'd also be hedging that a good number of spectators are actually going to stay overnight and not do day trips; most of our non-airshow related AC trips are overnight.

ALSO... and this is huge... both my wife and I typically get stuff in the mail from several of the AC casinos on a somewhat regular basis. We're talking about promotional stuff. Borgata sent my wife (but not me) something entailing visiting in April to pick up free gardening-related stuff. Some of this stuff is actually high quality stuff, not what you'd find in Dollar Tree or similar stores. We also have been there enough to get comped rooms and meals; we haven't gotten any room offers from anywhere in almost a year.

Now the argument begins... where to book and when in August.

The Airshow is continuing at Atlantic City in August 2024. We thank SJTA for their support for the 2024 event.
