#OTD in 1944, two Lockheed YP-80A Shooting Stars were sent to RAF Burtonwood in Lancashire, England, making the Shooting Star the United States’ first operational jet fighter. Did you know that the US had jet fighters in action during WWII?

It was #OTD in 1968 when a Sikorsky CH-54A Tarhe, the Army version of the civilian S-64 Skycrane, set two Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) World Records for Time to Altitude: 1 minute, 38.2 seconds to get to 3,000 meters, and 7 minutes, 54 seconds to get to 9,000 meters!
