F35 was there today, 2 of them.Dan Gagnon wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2017 3:02 pm Just checked the ACC static and flyover schedule, and they list Selfridge as having 1 x A-10 and 1 x F-35 flyover.

What I find interesting about this paticular flyover, is that Selfridge is making a pitch to be a future F-35 base and there is supposed to be a decision later this summer or in the fall, if Selfridge will be awarded the F-35. This would be a neat way of announcing it.
Just thinking outloud lol. Looking like a great show!

Found a spot, right on the river south of the runway. AMAZING!RyanS wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2017 1:09 amYep, I know exactly what you mean I've been all around Selfridge (though not in some years) and the subdivision at the south end is the only place to get a decent view as far as I'm concerned. It is directly at the end of the runway, the only problem is I have been chased away by cops in the past and the homeowners may not appreciate people hanging out. Like I said, it probably will be allowed during the practice day but it wouldn't hurt to have a backup plan either.japper wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2017 12:17 amThanks. Going to the show Saturday, just want to find somewhere to park Friday & see some planes flying around. Other air shows I have managed to find locations where they fly right over you, which they rarely if ever do at the actual show.RyanS wrote: ↑Sat Aug 12, 2017 8:33 pm
Your best bet is the subdivision just south of the airfield, off of N River Rd if I remember correctly. Since it's a show day they may tolerate spotting more than usual. The rest of the airfield is pretty well shielded by trees but you might be able to hang out somewhere between the highway and base and see some of the action from 'in the box'. You won't see anything on the runway from there though.
Let us know how it goes, whatever you do!

Bad news. Got a message from liveairshowtv (they are live streaming the air show this weekend, and they said "We just received word that they are having avionics issues that are keeping them grounded".

I have been to hundreds of air shows, and this was by far the best experience I have ever had. Very well organized, parking, everything was great. Big thanks to all the Americans for making a Canadian feel welcome!

We went to the Saturday show as well.
Traffic getting in wasn't to bad we got off the I94 from the south at North River Rd just as they were closing the off ramp.Took about 20 minutes and we were in the base parked and through security. They had a fighter heavy static with
3X T-38, 2X F-15C (JZ), 1 X F-15E (SJ) 2XF-22 (FF) , 1X F-35 (HL) 1 X CF-188, 1 X F-18E 2 X F-16 (OH) that I remember with a C-17 from Mississipi and a C-130 ( I can't remember where it was from) as well as local A-10 and KC-135
On the hot ramp modern military wise was the F-18 C USN demo team,F-35 as well as the warbirds T-33,Mig-17,F-100 ,F-86 plus the WW1 and WW2 warbirds.
The show was in a chronological order with the 3 WW1 planes up first before the WW2 launch .Then I believe it was the T-33,F-86 ,Mig-17 & F-100, F-18 , A-10's and KC-135 then F-35 and some aerobatics mixed in before the Thunderbirds performed.
Flying wise there was no heritage flight with the F-35 but before the USN F-18 demo team they launched the F-35 where he circled out over the lake for a while as the F-18 did it's demo. The F-35 made about 4 passes I think before landing it was definitely interesting to see it for the first time.
Sad the F-4 did not make it to the show ,so they substituted the F-100 in for the " dogfight" with the Mig before each also made some passes. There was a flight of 4 A-10's and 1 KC-135 from Selfridge that launched and looked like they stayed over the lake maybe doing a little tanking approach practice while they waited to come by.They did a CSAR demo with a CG helo . It was a good show, weather was good ,sky was definitely clear today for the show.
Now looking forward to London and some more jet noise

Despite no F-4 or Bremont Horsemen, this was the best non-Oshkosh show I've been to in a few years. Very few of what I would consider "filler" acts in five hours of flying and a superb static display. You don't see a Hurricane, P-39 and F-100 at just any airshow. Multiple F-15s, plus a Strike Eagle, F-18s, F-16s, F-22s and F-35s made for a great static lineup. Getting to see a few departures (including F-100 and F-18s) on Sunday was a bonus. We didn't have any problems with traffic before the show despite arriving much later than we had planned and leaving the base afterwards was a breeze.
On the downside, my camera malfunctioned and I didn't end up getting any pics. That's not why I go to airshows though, so I'll just have to enjoy what's posted here.
