I attended the Dayton show in the photo pit in 2018, 19, 21, and 22. Prior to 2022, it was great. $150 for the entire weekend: two hour early entry, media parking, and the photo pit. Best deal in airshows, in my opinion. Last year the price was the same, the only thing that changed was the location of the pit, and what an awful change it was. Moved from show center to the far right side of the line. Almost all pyro was blocked by the pavilion umbrellas, and crossings happen far to the left of your location.

Worst of all, last year they did a terrible job of credential checks at the pit entrance. I wound up shooting the last half of Sunday with an uncredentialed dude with a cell phone crowding me. I'm yet undecided on going this year, but leaning toward shooting Friday practice and going to the museum on the weekend instead of the show. If I do go, I'll probably spend little time in the pit and go exploring general admission for different angles. The map just updated on the website recently, and the pit is the same place it was last year.

Thanks for the insight! That's a bummer. I might consider it in the future but won't be making it this year. Practice and then visiting the museum sounds like a good plan though, I've been itching to get back there for a few years.jhtolatc wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 2:23 amI attended the Dayton show in the photo pit in 2018, 19, 21, and 22. You paid $150 for a photo pass, and a guy with a cell phone was crowding you? I used to go to Dayton back in the '80's during the Cold War when there were 100+ military aircraft on display. That was when it was the Air and Trade show every other year. There was a bunch of us that all knew each other, and we were all polite, and pretty helpful.jhtolatc wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 2:23 amWorst of all, last year they did a terrible job of credential checks at the pit entrance. Screw that! He would have been escorted out if it had been me he was crowding. That's if he wasn't literally carried out by all of us that were there shooting.
Additionally. It's a sad thing that people are getting charged that kind of money nowadays. I remember going to the London Airshow in the '80's, and the cost for the photo tour was nowhere near that kind of money.

Don't know how accurate this is, but according to the 2023 ICAS calendar the Dayton Airshow will have a demonstration by the USMC AV-8B Harrier II.

It's inaccurate. I reached out to the show and the Harrier won't be there - also removed from the ICAS calendar.n33d4sp33d_85 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 3:03 pm Don't know how accurate this is, but according to the 2023 ICAS calendar the Dayton Airshow will have a demonstration by the USMC AV-8B Harrier II.

Thank you for clearing it up. Didn't think it would be the case since the Harrier is only doing two shows this year.IDF783 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 28, 2023 10:22 pmIt's inaccurate.
