I've been going to the Cherry Point Air Show since 1991. My personal belief is that Cherry Point has a playbook that is passed down from air show director to air show director and they never deviate from it. There are a number of things they could do, from a production standpoint, to improve the show and put on a truly spectacular event.

-Taxi the performing aircraft in front of the crowd. Don't have them turn away from the crowd and taxi down the far taxi way.
-CP has four runways - one is used to park cars, one is for the show. The two others should only be used in case of emergency. All aircraft performing at the air show should launch and recover on the runway in front of the crowd. I hate it when they sneak aircraft out on 5L or 14R or when they recover aircraft on 32L or 23R.
-During the MAGTF Demonstration the helicopter rarely fly in front of the crowd. Most of their time is spent to the far right, well past the intersection of CP's four runways. The V-22, when unloading Marines, is the only helicopter type to spend any dedicated time in front of the crowd
-Personally I would love to see the Osprey, Viper, Venom and 53 hover in front of the crowd. They could talk about each type and the missions they perform.

All of the above items allow the crowd to see more, learn more and be inspired more. At minimal cost as well.

The selfish photographer in me would love to see...
- a 4-ship Harrier flyover
- a dissimilar formation of the fixed wing types flying in the MAGTF
- More helicopters in the MAGTF demo (the numbers seen at Miramar for example)
- More military performers - get creative - Cherry Points C-40 working the pattern would make me happy. Anyone remember when Langley's F-15 would beat up the pattern? That's good stuff that the crowd loves.
- Become a yearly show - Oceana isn't what it once was - Cherry Point could easily become the best military air show on the east coast if it wanted to!

You never know when your last chance to see Harriers will be. We know they'll be at the 2024 show. I'm looking forward to it!

There were a good handful of civilian acts at Miramar the years I went.

Is there no MAGTF demo at this show? I was under the impression every major Marine base does one for their airshow.
Spoke to someone with the airshow and they confirmed there will be a MAGTF.

I found a previous video of the MAGTF demo that consisted of legacy hornets, did Cherry Point at one time base them or were they from another near by base? I also noticed in the Harrier video I posted you could see them in the background. Doing a quick search doesn't turn up any F18Cs stationed there.

Someone can correct me if need be, but I think all the USMC F/A-18s in the NC/SC region were in MCAS Beaufort.

Going back a few more years... really can't show my age with this one (!) but back when we had NAS/JRB Willow Grove, they had MAGTF demos that also featured the A-10s and C-130s that were based there. We'd have F/A-18s from VMFA-321 from Andrews take part in the MAGTF demos there.

They are indeed based at MCAS Beaufort.

Admission and parking for the Cherry Point Air Show are free, but a FREE VEHICLE PASS will be required for entry to the show - one pass per vehicle, not per person. Upon arrival at the gate, simply display your pass - either on your phone or a printed copy - for admission.

Some statics are now listed on the website. One that sticks out to me is the MQ-9 Reaper.

Harriers are planned to be retired in late 2026. It sounded unlikely that any Harriers will be home when Cherry Point host their 2026 show.
It’s official. This year’s show will mark the last time that the AV-8B Harrier II will perform a demonstration.

Since it will be the last time we see the Harriers, do you think they will do a formation flight or send up a couple of them to beat up the pattern? I know when Barnes ANGB had there airshow last year, they had multiple F-15's up just doing some flybys with pyro. Just something to say goodbye to all the people in the community that supported them.
