Hi there,

I'm looking to buy or trade for a ticket to the Flying Day on Sunday the 5th May - I had been planning to go with a couple friends and while they were able to purchase their tickets, when I came to do so they'd 'Sold Out'! I've contacted IWM and been told that tickets are non refundable nor are there any likely to come up for resale.

I am the driver of the party so would very much still like to make the day out without just being a taxi if possible. Can anyone help in this?

Kind Regards,

Captain "Winging it" Chris

An update from the team organising the commemorative parachute jumps in the UK and France next week with its implications for IWM Duxford's airshow:
“Dear D-Day 80 parachutist,
“The commemorative event for which we have striven these many months is upon us!
Organising an event at several locations in two countries is complicated enough and then when you add the impact of local regulations and immigration controls which generally firm up just before the event it makes giving final information about timings and logistics quite challenging.
Anyway we will be issuing updates with important information from now on, particularly when anything changes. We will do our best to get everyone jumped but in addition to the challenges already mentioned we will be impacted by the weather as usual. We will be talking to the jump team bosses frequently to replan and offer alternatives when required.

DAKOTA AIRCRAFT UPDATE
Firstly a very big thank you to our US colleagues who have made a massive commitment to bring their aircraft to Europe to support this significant commemoration. The Douglas Dakotas that we are using are now over 80 years old and we should expect maintenance issues and we will plan around that as best we can:
The C47 aircraft that are in the UK and are serviceable are:
That’s All Brother
Placid Lassie
Pegasus “The Ghost of Arnhem”
Screaming Eagle is en route and is currently in Greenland awaiting a weather window to fly to the UK and is expected Monday or Tuesday.
R4D required an engine change which has been completed and it now needs 25 hours flight testing before setting off from the US. We await more information which is imminent and wish them luck.
Drag Em Oot is awaiting a new engine which was air freighted from the US and is now in the UK pending delivery at North Weald Airfield (Bank holiday weekend does not help with delays). The engineering team is ready to fit the engine as soon as it is delivered to the airfield.
Night Fright has confirmed that it will not be ready in time and will therefore not be able to participate. We wish them the very best with their restoration.

UK SCHEDULE UPDATES:
Practice jumps at Duxford on Friday 31st May 2024.
Please go to Duxford directly where you will be briefed, document checked, emplaned and jumped. You will need to make your own travel arrangements to and from Duxford.
We have just under 40 signed up for these practice jumps which DO qualify you as currency jumps (as long as you are only just out of date) and there will be two sorties on this day - one circa 12.00 and one circa 14.30. There is a facility at Duxford for you to repack your parachutes. More detailed communication from RCPT will be sent tomorrow to those that have booked a practice jump, giving you the details for arrival times and directions upon when at Duxford.
Duxford drop at the D-Day air show on the 1st June 2024.
The CAA rules state that for an aircraft that weighs more than 5,700KG (all Dakotas) we must emplane parachutists at a licensed airfield. North Weald used to be licensed but is not now so we requested an exemption to emplane there but the CAA recently advised us that this wasn’t possible.
So the best alternative is that the Dakotas will fly with crew only into Duxford from North Weald circa 16.30. We will hot load parachutists taking part in the Duxford Air show jump at Duxford. The assembly point for parachutists is North Weald and we will supply coach transport to and from Duxford on that day.
We will confirm emplaning details for the cross channel jumps on the 2nd June 2024 shortly but it is likely to mirror the above.
More updates to follow - keep an eye on our website and social media.
Happy jumping!
The D-Day 80 : Heroes Remembered Team”
