Good news airshows fans! The USAF’s newest tactical fighter, the F-35 Lightning, will participate in USAF Heritage Flights during the 2016 airshow season! Air Combat Command Aerial Events announced the news earlier this week.

Does this mean we could see a P-38 Lightning flying alongside a USAF F-35 Lightning II? Only time will tell but something tells me some airshow organizer will try to put it together!

ACC has not yet announced if the F-35 will perform any additional flybys at airshows where one participates in the Heritage Flight. You may remember the F-22 performed a “mini-demo” during its first years in the Heritage Flight.

In addition, the USAF will also continue to support the F-22 Raptor and F-16 Viper as part of the USAF Heritage Flight Program. The program is designed to represent the past and present of military aviation by pairing up front line fighters and vintage fighter aircraft. P-51 Mustangs, F-86 Sabres, P-47s, P-40s, and A-1 Skyraiders all participate in the flights.

Look for part of the 2016 USAF Heritage Flight and single ship demo team schedule to be released in February.
